Herta Silva is a NYC-based, multi-media artist, art director & designer. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Herta later moved to Mexico City before finally arriving in the US in 1990. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Connecticut, and later the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), where she studied English & Comparative Literature. Herta worked for 12 years as Art Director for Liz Claiborne, Monet, Fifth & Pacific Companies and Kate Spade and Company. In addition to her fashion & corporate work, Herta has been involved in many philanthropic projects for the FNPC Foundation, St. Jude’s Hospital & the anti-domestic violence campaigns, Love Is Not Abuse, & No More.

In the Summer of 2014 Herta decided to go independent as HERTAWORKS. Her previous work life as a one woman team, allowed her to be able to provide a range of services that are normally attributed to large creative agencies. Herta handles all creative aspects of launching and/or supporting a brand, from designing identity & collateral to art directing ad campaigns. She also provides budget conscious clients in-house photography and re-touching. Additional services include story-boarding, animation, video, showroom design & illustration.

In her artwork, focus is on the themes of women, fashion, culture & ethnicity. An experienced world traveler and multilinguist, Herta is inspired by the places she visits, the people she meets, their fashion, style & imagery. For the past 17 years, she has been incorporating discarded fabric, paper, wood, & other found materials she acquires in her travels & through her fashion contacts here in NYC. Recently Herta has been experimenting with video & music, often combining the two with her unique vision.
